Chris was born on a third-generation dairy farm in Austerlitz, NY. Living on a working farm and in such close proximity with nature imbued Chris with a strong work ethic and a love of the land around him. His relationship with the land he loves is at the heart of his passion for creating art from wood.
After working with a Harvard University professor building prototypes Chris began dreaming of making his own furniture. Returning home to the family farm, he honed his craft renovating barns and building traditional timber framed dwellings. Chris builds his furniture in a barn originally built for his grandparents’ dairy herd in the 1940’s-- continuing the legacy of hard yet fufilling work on the land that his family started farming three generations ago.
Chris designs and crafts distinctive generational furniture with an emphasis on traditional joinery and simplicity of line and form. Each piece is one of a kind and begins with a hand-selected hardwood slab from a local mill. Chris sees a unique story in the raw beauty of each piece of wood; then works to bring that story into a new form. The result is a custom piece; a collaboration with nature to be used, cherished and passed down to future generations.
